Kaj's top 5 list of light roasted specialty coffees 2024
Another coffee year is coming to an end and this year has also offered many magical Specialty Coffee / Specialkaffe tasting experiences. In this blog post I thought I would make a small summary of my favorites of the light roasted coffee varieties we roasted during the year. So stay tuned!
5: Finca El Cocal, El Salvador
We sold Finca El Cocal in early 2024 during a period when we had many different types of light roasted specialty coffee with more classic profiles from, among others , Kenya and Ethiopia. This natural anaerobic specialty coffee was funky, sour, sweet with a vinous and punchy feel. It really was special and stood out!
4: Finca Santa Maria De Lourdes, Nicaragua
This specialty coffee really takes me back to this summer when I drank it a lot out at home in the garden and outdoors during the beautiful summer days. Finca Santa Maria De Lourdes was a natural anaerobic specialty coffee from with magical flavor tones of cherry, stone fruit and lemon. This specialty coffee was the least funky of all the light roasted anaerobic specialty coffees we roasted in 2024 it just had a very different character that is hard to put into words and it was terribly good.
3: Tariki Kare, Ethiopia
Of all the specialty coffees on this short list, I think Tariku Kare is the "least" special and unique. The reason it comes out ahead of both Finca El Cocal and Finca Santa Maria De Lourdes is that it was so incredibly balanced and delicious and could be drunk consistently regardless of the occasion without becoming "too sweet" as it can be if you drink really funky and spicy coffees all the time. Tariku Kare was a naturally processed specialty coffee from Ethiopia. Sweet, stylish & berry coffee.
We have been making this coffee in our moccamaster over the year to get it as full-bodied as possible.
2: El Mirador, Colombia
This year's Christmas coffee 2024. At the time of writing, I have a cup of El Mirador on the table. I will also remember this special coffee as the special coffee we drank before every series match in the padel series at Every Padel Hälla when we gathered at the roastery before the matches. El Mirador is a naturally processed, spreadable, sweet, punchy, special coffee from Colombia. I quote Dan "This is special coffee for me" as this is truly special coffee.
El Mirador is available for purchase in our webshop, enter the code JOHDET15 to get a 15% discount on this masterpiece: https://hallakafferosteri.com/kaffe/ljusrostat-kaffe/julkaffe-limited-edition
1: Guji Wubanci, Ethiopia
This year's King at Hälla Coffee Roastery is Guji Wubanci, in my opinion completely unchallenged number 1 this year even though the other specialty coffee varieties in place 2-5 are really good. We had this specialty coffee this summer in a very limited edition of 20kg. Guji Wubanci was a so-called Supernatural and had magical flavor tones of, among other things , chewing gum, pear and melon. I remember when Dan had roasted Guji Wubanci for the first time this summer and we tasted it. It is a moment that they a. coffee lovers want to experience again and again in the world of specialty coffee.
Thank you to all of you who are with us on our coffee journey, we promise you all that 2025 will be a year with many unique taste experiences!
Happy New Year!
