How to brew coffee in a coffee press? Recipe 65 g per liter

How do you brew coffee in a coffee press? ☕

Brewing coffee is an art that enhances the joy of life – both Kaj and I think so.

And if there's a day made for the press jug, it's Sunday.
A long morning. Breakfast in peace and quiet. And a full cup of coffee that takes up space.

The French Press is one of the simplest brewing methods, but it also produces a rich, full-bodied cup .

Here we share exactly how we do it.

Why choose a press jug?

Pressed coffee is different from brewed coffee because:

  • The coffee is in contact with the water at all times.

  • No paper filter is used

  • The coffee's natural oils remain

It gives:

✔ More body
✔ Deeper flavor
✔ Rounder mouthfeel

Recipe: how much coffee in a press pot?

This is our recommendation:

  • 65 grams of coffee

  • 1 liter of water

  • Brewing time: 4–5 minutes

  • Grinding: coarse

This corresponds to approximately a ratio of 1:15 – a stable and balanced starting point.

This is what you need

To brew coffee in a coffee press, you need:

  • 65 g specialty coffee (whole beans)

  • 1 liter of water

  • A wave

  • A mill

  • A juicer (we use a 1 liter one)

Always grind your own coffee

We always recommend grinding your own coffee.

It gives:

  • better freshness

  • clearer aroma

  • better taste

And the smell when you grind coffee at home... it's hard to beat.

Step by step – how we brew a press jug

1️⃣ Grind the coffee coarsely

Weigh out 65 grams and grind coarsely.
The grind should resemble roughly coarse oatmeal (a little smaller).

Why coarsely ground?

Because the coffee is in the water the whole time. Grinding it too fine will quickly cause the coffee to become overextracted and bitter.

2️⃣ Preheat the jug

Pour boiling water into the press jug and let stand for a while.
Also add the press part.

This keeps the temperature stable during brewing.

Then pour away the water.

3️⃣ Bloom – first 40 seconds

Pour in the coffee.

Add about ¼ of the water and stir so that all the coffee is wet.

Leave for 40 seconds .

This is called bloom and helps the coffee release gases and aromas.

4️⃣ Fill up the rest of the water

Pour in the remaining water.

Stir gently once more.

5️⃣ Let brew for 4–5 minutes

Now the extraction is taking place.

4–5 minutes produces a full-bodied and balanced cup.
Don't let it sit for too long - the taste risks becoming bitter.

6️⃣ Squeeze slowly

Press the plunger down slowly and evenly.

Do you want to prevent the coffee from continuing to be extracted?
Pour into a thermos immediately.

Which coffee is best suited for a coffee press?

The press jug is particularly suitable for:

  • Middle grate
