Brewing coffee is a small everyday art that makes life better. We often get asked how we brew coffee at home — so we thought we'd share our method.
We'll start with the classic: brewing coffee in a coffee maker , and in our case we'll use a Moccamaster .
This is an easy way to get a really good cup of coffee — as long as you have the right dosage, the right grind, and a little attention to detail.
To brew 1 liter of coffee, we recommend:
62–66 g coffee (specialty coffee beans)
1 liter of water
A wave
A coffee grinder
A brewing machine (we use Moccamaster)
This is one of the most common questions.
Our recommendation is:
62 g coffee per liter = balanced cup
66 g of coffee per liter = a little more “stuns”
This gives a cup with good sweetness, clear flavor and nice balance.
We almost always recommend grinding your own coffee.
This allows you to:
retains freshness longer
gets clearer aromas in the cup
Gets a more even extraction
And yes — the smell when you grind coffee at home is absolutely magical.
Weigh up:
62 g coffee (or 66 g if you want more strength)
Then grind the coffee. The grinding degree should be approximately similar to granulated sugar .
Grinding too fine → water flows slowly → more extraction → risk of bitterness and too strong
Grinding too coarse → water flows too quickly → risk of flaky and weak coffee
Before pouring the coffee into the filter, we always rinse the paper filter with a little water.
We do this to:
remove paper taste
heat the filter holder
Then pour out the rinsing water and fill with the ground coffee.
There is a scale with copper on the Moccamaster's water tank.
4 cups = 0.5 liters
8 cups = 1 liter
When we brew a full jug, we fill it with water to 8 .
Turn on the brewer and check that all the coffee in the filter is soaked.
If you see dry “islands” in the coffee, you can gently stir it around with a spoon, so all the coffee comes into contact with the water.
It's a simple trick that often yields better results.
When brewing is complete, we recommend pouring the coffee into a thermos.
If the coffee is left on the hotplate for too long, it may start to taste:
bitter
burned
flat
Grab your favorite cup and enjoy your coffee in peace and quiet.
Preferably in good company — that's when coffee is at its best.
Right now we have started brewing our Mellanrost Blend Almost There.
It is a blend of beans from Peru and Colombia , which provides a perfect balance between:
soft body
mild acid
round chocolateness
nice sweetness

If you like a stronger cup, we recommend our Dark Roast Blend Night Black
Night Black is made from beans from Brazil, Colombia and Uganda and is a full-bodied coffee.
notes of chocolate
smokier tones

We recommend 62–66 grams per liter .
Often it is due to:
too fine grinding
too high a dose
that the coffee has been on the hotplate for too long
Often it is due to:
for coarse grinding
too low dose
too short contact time between coffee and water
Brewing really good coffee at home doesn't have to be difficult.
With the right dosage, the right grind, and a few simple steps, you can have a cup that tastes like a café — every day.
Hope you, the reader, have a nice day!
