What is dark roast coffee?

Dark roast coffee is a popular type of coffee that is obtained by roasting coffee beans at high temperatures. This gives the coffee a darker color and a stronger flavor compared to light roast coffee. Dark roasting also enhances the natural flavors of the coffee beans, including chocolate, nuts, and tobacco. There are different degrees of dark roast, with espresso being the darkest. Dark roast coffee is great for espresso-based drinks, but it is also commonly used in filter coffee and other coffee drinks. If you like a strong and powerful flavor, dark roast coffee is the obvious choice.

What does dark roast coffee taste like?

Dark roast coffee has a darker, more intense, and more robust flavor than light roast coffee. It often has notes of chocolate, nuts, and a hint of bitterness. The flavor can also depend on the type of beans used, where they were grown, and how they were processed before roasting. Dark roast coffee is often chosen by people who prefer a stronger flavor.

How is dark roasted coffee made?

Dark roasted coffee is made by roasting the beans at higher temperatures and for a longer time than light roasting. This means that the beans get a darker color and a more intense flavor.

The exact method varies from roaster to roaster, but with us it means that the beans are roasted at high temperatures for up to 11 minutes or more. During roasting, the chemical composition of the beans changes, which gives the coffee its special flavor and aroma.

After roasting, the coffee is sorted and packaged for sale.

What is Specialty Coffee?

Specialty Coffee is coffee of the highest quality, grown under optimal conditions and carefully selected for its unique flavor profiles. For a coffee to be classified as specialty coffee, it must receive a rating of at least 80 points out of 100 (on a scale of 0-100) from a certified coffee expert, a so-called Q-Grader. The rating is based on factors such as taste, aroma, body and acidity. Specialty coffee is often grown on small-scale farms where the focus is on sustainability, environmentally friendly practices and a close relationship between grower and coffee roaster. This results in coffee with exceptional and complex flavors, often with unique notes depending on the origin, process and roasting.
