Hälla Kafferosteri |22/02, 2025
The fact that coffee prices have gone up is something that hardly anyone has missed, regardless of whether you like regular commercial coffee from the big roasteries or specialty coffee from small roasteries like us at Hälla Kafferosteri. So what is the reason why it has become like this mainly in 2024 and the beginning of 2025? I have made a list of 10 points that have caused the price of coffee to rise.
1: Weather conditions in Brazil and Vietnam
Brazil and Vietnam are the world's two largest coffee producers and have been hit by drought, high temperatures and other adverse weather conditions that have reduced harvests of arabica and robusta beans.
2: Climate change
The warmer climate is negatively affecting coffee cultivation, especially for the Arabica bean which is sensitive to temperature changes. This leads to reduced production and higher prices.
3: Increased global demand
Demand for coffee has increased, especially in emerging markets such as China, which is pushing prices upwards.
4: Supply chain disruptions
Logistical challenges, including high shipping costs and delays, have negatively affected coffee prices.
5: Geopolitical uncertainties
Trade tensions and political uncertainties have led to market unrest, affecting coffee prices.
6: Increased production costs
Increased costs for all companies working in the coffee chain, i.e. all the way from the farms to those who ultimately sell the coffee to the end consumer, have led to higher prices for coffee.
7: Reduced stock
Due to previous production problems and increased demand, this has led to a tighter market and higher prices.
8: Weak Crown
Exchange rate fluctuations have affected the cost of coffee imports, which is reflected in the final prices for consumers.
9: Increased demand for specialty coffee
We at Hälla Kafferosteri are certainly happy that the demand for specialty coffee and sustainable production has increased. However, this is one of the reasons why the price has also been increased.
10: Expectations of continued price increases
Analysts predict that coffee prices will remain high in 2025 due to the above-mentioned factors.
