Father and son who changed Rwandan coffee production

Located in the beautiful Karongi region, Gitesi Washing Station is run by the dynamic duo of Alexis and Aime Gahizi – father and son. The family has been growing coffee in the region for generations, but in 2005 they took the plunge and built the Gitesi Washing Station.

However, the road to success was anything but straight. In the early years, Alexis and Aime struggled hard to keep the business afloat and profitable. But shame on those who give up! In 2010, things finally turned around, and since then they have built an incredibly stable and sustainable company.

Aime, who is a trained engineer, has designed his own, innovative water purification system for the washing station . The system is so efficient that it is now used as a model for the entire country's coffee production industry. That's what we call true craftsmanship and environmental focus!

Did you know that... > Competition for coffee beans (or coffee cherries as they are actually from the start) is fierce in Rwanda. Farmers are free to choose which washing station they deliver to. Gitesi works with over 1,800 local farmers. By offering competitive prices and building strong relationships, they ensure that only the absolute best cherries end up in their hands – and ultimately in your cup.

What does Rwanda Gitesi taste like?

This is a coffee experience for those who love the clean and balanced taste of washed coffee. The beans are Red Bourbon and have been grown at an impressive altitude of 1750–1800 meters above sea level, giving the beans time to develop an enormous richness of flavor.

In the cup you are greeted by a lovely herbal character, a full texture and clear, fresh notes of red fruits. It is clean, complex and simply addictively good.
