El Rosal from Nariño in Colombia – Origin, flavor profile & producers

A highland coffee from Colombia

In the mountainous regions of Nariño, Colombia , where coffee is grown at altitudes between 1930 and 2100 meters above sea level , conditions are created for coffee with a clear character and deep flavor.

Here, in a climate where cooler temperatures and high altitude slow the ripening of the coffee berries, complex and balanced flavors develop. The result is a coffee that combines sweetness, body and elegance in every cup .

Three producers – three unique stories

Behind this coffee are three dedicated coffee farmers, whose work and lives shape every bean.

José Edilberto Ayala – endurance at high altitude

From Finca El Arriendo , located at an altitude of 2120 meters , José runs his farm with a strong work ethic. As a family man, he walks 45 minutes every day to reach his crops.

Despite the tough conditions at high altitude, he continues to produce high-quality coffee – to secure his family's future.

Luis Carlos Morales España – the next generation of coffee farmers

At Finca El Naranjo , 1990 meters above sea level, we find Luis Carlos – a young producer and second-generation coffee farmer.

As the eldest of six siblings, he carries a great responsibility. In addition to working on his own farm, he is involved in the Ecoterra association , where he contributes during the harvest season to support both his family and the local community.

José Wbeimar Castillo Garzón – back to coffee

José Wbeimar, also from Finca El Naranjo , returned to coffee farming after a few years in other jobs.

Despite financial challenges, he chose to invest in coffee again – not only for its profitability, but to be able to:

  • Live close to their mother
  • Work sustainably
  • Contribute positively to the environment

His journey shows how coffee can be both a lifestyle and a future.

Collaboration that strengthens the entire region

Together, these three farms produce approximately 14,000 kilograms of parchment coffee per year , with a clear ambition to grow to 75,000 kilograms .

Growth is driven by collaboration with 20 local families , where the focus is on:

  • Improved processing methods
  • Higher quality
  • Standardization of production

The goal is clear:

To strengthen the region's position in the coffee market and create better payment for producers.
