Gura Wet Mill is beautifully situated on the banks of the Gura River in Nyeri County, Kenya. The washing station receives coffee berries from small-scale growers on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountains, an area known for its cool temperatures, fertile soils and ideal microclimates for high-quality coffee. Nyeri is located between the eastern foothills of the Aberdare Range, which forms part of the mighty Rift Valley, and the western slopes of Mount Kenya. This geographical location creates unique growing conditions that give the coffee its lively acidity and fruity character – hallmarks of some of Kenya’s most sought-after coffees.

Cultivation and processing

The coffee consists of the classic Kenyan varieties SL28 and SL34, grown by small farmers who carefully harvest the berries by hand when they are at their ripest. After delivery to the Gura Wet Mill, the berries undergo a traditional washed process, where they are fermented, washed in clean river water and slowly dried in the sun on raised beds. This method preserves the coffee's purity, clear acidity and sweetness, and highlights the fresh and nuanced fruit tones that have made Kenyan coffee world famous. Gura AA offers a delicious cup with tropical notes of mango and pineapple, deep berry flavors of blackberries and red cherries, and a finish reminiscent of softly melted brown sugar. The feeling is both fresh and full-bodied, with an elegant balance between acidity and sweetness - an expression of Kenya's mountain coffee culture in its purest form.
