The cooperative was started by 25 farmers with a shared vision:
To organize small-scale growers and create better conditions for quality and export.
Today they work with over 2,000 smallholders in the region.
This means:
More stable income
Better quality control
Traceability
Joint knowledge development
It is a clear example of how cooperatives can empower small-scale coffee farmers in mountainous regions.
Wet Hulled is a process that is largely unique to Indonesia.
It is clearly different from washed and natural coffee.
Here's how it works:
Ripe coffee berries are handpicked.
They are mashed the same day and allowed to ferment overnight.
The wet parchment (locally called Gabu ) is sun-dried for 1–2 days.
At approximately 40% moisture content, the parchment is removed mechanically.
The coffee is then dried further to approximately 12.5–13% moisture content.
Finally, it is hand-picked twice to remove defects.
The process gives the coffee a character that is often described as:
Spicy
Earthy
Depth
Powerful
Creamy
That's why Sumatra coffee is so appreciated by those who like a full-bodied cup.
In the cup you get:
Spicy notes
Dark chocolate
Creamy and dense body
Low acid
Long aftertaste
It's a coffee that feels stable, rich and almost a little mysterious.
Perfect for you who:
Likes darker expressions
Prefers low acidity
Want a full cup

Coffee came to Indonesia via the Dutch in the 17th century.
The first attempt in 1696 failed when plantations were destroyed by floods.
But in 1699 new cuttings arrived from Ceylon.
Java long became the center of coffee in the Dutch East Indies, and for many years almost all Indonesian coffee was called “Java” – regardless of origin.
It took a while before Sumatra developed larger volumes.
But today, the Gayo region in Aceh is one of Indonesia's most famous coffee areas.
